How does it work?

The Cycle Charge is connected to the dynamo and it uses the electricity the dynamo generates to charge your phone. You can do this by connecting your USB-cable to the Cycle Charge. Your phone is held in place by the phone holder.

Achievements

We’re done developing the technology. We’ve achieved an energy conversion efficiency of 90%. This makes it so that the Cycle Charge is very sustainable. Every phone charges at a different speed. With the Cycle Charge you can fully charge your phone in 1,5 – 2,0 hours. This is faster than most phones using a regular wall socket. So in most cases, the Cycle Charge charges your phone quicker than a regular wall socket!

3d Printed

We’ve chosen to use 3d printed prototypes. This is easier and cheaper than using other casings. We know this isn’t a final solution, since 3d printing is expensive and slow. We think we’ll go for injection moulding for the final version because this is cheaper and faster than 3d printing.

Future

We want to keep developing the Cycle Charge, in the future we want to have a small, universal phone holder with the Cycle Charge already built in. This version should be payable and user friendly so that everyone can contribute to a better environment. This version will be available in different colours.

Cycle Charge is a masterclass project by Chris Bor, Martijn Kanger, Gijs Koops and Bart Verver,

made possible by Bataafs Lyceum.
